New York Mets' star Pete Alonso has pledged to donate $1,000 per home run to animal rescues this season in a move that is sure to earn him even more fans in 2024.
New York Mets' star Pete Alonso appears set to donate a ton of money during the 2024 season, as he's pledged $1,000 to animal rescues for every home run he hits.

"The Alonso Foundation and I are going to be donating $1,000 per home run to animal rescues. We're going to be trying to tackle the issue of trying to get animals out of kill shelters, so we're going to be helping as many animals as possible - whether that's paying for transport, beds, toys, supplies, blankets - the whole bit!" Alonso told reporters this morning.
"We're going to be donating certain money to rescues to take in animals - especially dogs out of kill shelters," the 29-year-old continued.
The 29-year-old Florida native has hit at least 37 home runs in every season he's played (except for COVID 2020, when he hit 16 in 60 games), so he looks set to donate somewhere between $35,000 and $50,000 this year. He hit a career-high 53 back in 2019 and is coming off a year in which he hit 46 home runs.
That kind of money could go a long way towards a great cause - and will undoubtedly earn him lots of fans along the way.

Alonso's first chance to hit a home run this year will come on March 28 when the Mets open up the season with the Milwaukee Brewers.
